With more than two decades of experience spanning software engineering, architecture, consulting, and executive leadership, Romano bridges strategy and execution to help organizations deliver outcomes in complex environments.

He wrote “The Cybernetic Enterprise: How to Build a Future-Ready Organization” and, with Dietmar Wettach, “Lean Enterprise Architecture: A Practical Guide to Value-Driven Enterprise Architecture”. He is a regular speaker at industry conferences, writes the newsletter The CAIO and hosts the podcast Prompt & Proper.

Romano lectures on DevOps, agile methods, digital transformation and enterprise architecture at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. He organizes the monthly DevOps Meetup Zürich and is president of DevOpsDays Zürich.

The real question with AI is how we turn its potential into real value. For that conversation, I’m particularly happy to have Romano Roth with us today, because Romano is someone who understands this topic from the ground up.

He started his career as a software engineer and over more than two decades at Zühlke moved from engineering into software architecture, enterprise transformation, DevOps and platform engineering, all the way to becoming Group Chief AI Officer and Partner today. Along the way, he has worked on more than 40 enterprise projects across eight industries, from banking and pharma to energy, logistics and government.

So when Romano talks about AI in organizations, he doesn’t look at AI in isolation. He understands the technology and the architecture underneath it. He understands the platforms and operating models needed to scale it, and he understands the organizational transformation required to turn technology into measurable business outcomes.

He teaches enterprise architecture, digital transformation and cloud architecture, has collected more than 45 professional certifications, is the author of The Cybernetic Enterprise and co-author of Lean Enterprise Architecture, and was recognized as one of Switzerland’s Digital Shapers 2026.

So there is quite some expertise coming onto this stage. But what I personally enjoy about Romano is that you don’t experience him as someone who simply wants to tell you how much he knows. You experience his curiosity and incredible passion for the topic. He is approachable, he challenges your thinking, and within minutes you find yourself looking at questions you thought you understood from a completely different perspective.

And I think that is exactly what we need today. Not another conversation about the latest AI tool, but a much bigger one.
