Is Artificial Intelligence (AI) at a turning point? A clear yes, because several forces are acting simultaneously and creating momentum. Capital and budgets are coming into sharper focus, governance and liability are moving from theory to implementation, and expectations of what AI should deliver are shifting from assistance to execution. In parallel, new use cases are emerging that have zero tolerance for “roughly right.” They range from core processes to security to physical environments where errors can be expensive and dangerous.

A look at the most important AI trends of the year reveals which strategic decisions are critical for enterprises now.

1. The AI Bubble Bursts (Very Likely)

Will the AI hype continue unchecked? There are growing signs of a possible correction, not because AI “fails,” but because the global economy could falter. In such an environment, capital markets reassess AI investments: a stressed yield curve has historically often signaled recession. And the high market concentration of the “Magnificent 7” increases index risk. The technology will continue to evolve, but companies should prepare for a possible valuation reset that is primarily macroeconomically driven.

2. Local Models Become Standard

Many companies are currently reorganizing their AI architectures: away from pure cloud dependency, toward hybrid setups combining local, sovereignly hosted, and external models. This is not a matter of ideology but necessary risk management. Data residency, compliance requirements, geopolitical tensions, export controls, and demanding requirements for latency, availability, and predictable inference costs are changing the standard. The goal is a platform that operates a portfolio of models, not a single universal model.

The central strategic lever going forward is different: a new “operating system” for the entire organization. It connects strategy with operational execution through real-time data, transparency, and rapid iteration.

The core is simple but uncomfortable: feedback must be designed to change behavior. This means continuous signals from customers, operations, risk, and value contribution. For this to work, organizations need a “Cybernetic Platform” as a non-negotiable foundation: self-service, policy-as-code, observability, embedded AI services, and platform product thinking, so teams can deliver quickly, safely, and autonomously.

4. AI-Native Software Development Becomes the Benchmark

The bottleneck is no longer code. It’s about controllability. Generative AI drastically lowers the entry barrier, but it doesn’t replace responsibility. What matters is a new role profile: the AI-native engineer. They don’t just use AI as a copilot. They build a controllable engineering system: with clear guardrails, measurable quality, and automated feedback loops.

5. “Physical AI” Steps Into Reality

The catch: companion AI can reinforce psychological dependencies, manipulate deliberately, or normalize disinformation. The EU AI Act targets exactly this direction. The imperative for decision-makers: anyone seriously deploying AI mentors (including for CIOs) needs digital emotional safety standards, before rollout, not after.
